Our Mission
Friends of Fletcher’s Cove (FFC) is committed to maintaining, improving, and sustaining Fletcher’s Cove as a premier urban gateway to the outdoors within Washington, D.C. Through grassroots advocacy and stakeholder collaboration, we will ensure Fletcher’s Cove is preserved and protected to benefit anglers, paddlers, wildlife enthusiasts, and outdoorspeople of all backgrounds.
Core Goals
Through our work, we aim to achieve these key goals:
- Address legacy access issues to ensure Fletcher’s Cove remains a deep and reliable entry-point to the Potomac River.
- Educate park visitors, local residents, and government decisionmakers to convey the Cove’s rich significance within the Potomac Gorge and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
- Utilize Fletcher’s Cove’s unique location and outdoor opportunities to foster a new and diverse generation of conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts.
FFC Board of Trustees
Gabby Bilotta
Gabby Bilotta grew up in DC and has spent much of her life on the Potomac river, rowing, coaching, and fly fishing. Today, she works in the tech and smart access industry. Gabby spent mornings with her dad, John, practicing casting at Fletcher's Cove. On Sundays, this casting session became known as ‘Casting Church’ - an event still held at the Cove. Each year Gabby takes friends of all fishing levels out during the Shad run, often leading to landing a first fish. The Cove is a special place for Gabby and her family, and she’s thrilled to be part of the Friends of Fletcher’s cove team.
Sara Tucker
Sara is an accomplished Government Relations professional with years of experience on Capitol Hill. In her work for FFC, Sara draws on her passion for public land conservation and water quality.
Seth Amgott
Seth is a policy and communications strategist, former One.org and the Census Bureau. A native New Yorker, he appreciates the outdoor access and larger shad runs in D.C.
Michael Mazer
Will Poston
Will Poston grew up and currently lives in DC. During college, Will began writing for The Flylords, a fly fishing media company, and has been the group’s Conservation Editor since 2017. Currently, Will covers fishing-related issues on Capitol Hill for the American Saltwater Guides Association, a science-based, resource-first advocacy group that represents fishing guides, conservation-minded private anglers, and fishing-related businesses. As a life-long angler and outdoorsperson, Will has dedicated much of his life to conservation and works to protect natural resources for future generations.
Chris Wood
Chris has worked for Trout Unlimited for 20 years, and previously worked for the United States Forest Service. He is an average but exceptionally earnest angler.
Mitch Butler
Mitch is a government affairs advisor who spent years on Capitol Hill and within the U.S. Department of Interior and the Council on Environmental Quality. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mitch spent six summers as a fishing guide in Alaska and can frequently be found fishing at Fletcher's Cove.
Josh Cohn
Josh Cohn, originally from Washington, DC, joined Oceana in 2021 as a Social Media Specialist.His fondness of our ocean's fish and passion for conservation brought him to Oceana, before which he worked in digital marketing at a publishing firm. In his free time you can find Josh fishing—usually just upriver of the DC office. Josh manages FFC's growing social media presence.
Mike Bailey
Mike has fished Fletcher's for 45 years. From 2014 to 2021 he served as spokesperson for the founding FFC members. Every spring you will find him on the Potomac.
Mark Binsted
Mark is an architect and long-time advocate for Fletcher's Cove, and has fished at the Cove for fifty years. You can find him in the Spring catching shad with his fly rod and writing about the run.
FFC Staff
Rob Catalanotto, Executive Director
Rob is a D.C. native who learned to love the outdoors and environmental conservation at Fletcher's Cove. Rob is also a Government Affairs representative for Trout Unlimited, working to advance coldwater conservation issues on Capitol Hill.
